Thank you so much for establishing a nice school like MPI so students can pursue their dreams. My name is Yanan Chuang and I attended the [Phlebotomy & Electrocardiography Technician] class from July to October of 2015. I found the class very helpful and the office staff/ courses coordinators were encouraging. [The staff of MPI] always say hi with warm greeting.
I took the Phlebotomy class with FF/EMT Mark V. Hall and EKG class with Dr. Mohammad
Fahkri. They have very different teaching styles, but both of them were very good especially, Dr. Fakhri, Mohammad had a lot of passion on teaching. He always took time to answer students’ questions. He may be the most patient doctor that I have ever met. I believed his class was special and different compared to courses I had taken at other schools.
Again, thank you for providing a nice learning environment like MPI.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Yanan

I’m a very proud graduate of MPI…At the time my class graduated all 15 of us were the 1st graduating class of Phlebotomy. My career has been the best choice for me & my training and education from MPI was & still is top notch. I’m very proud of the success, expansion and growth of my MPI…thanks for giving me the tools and education to be the phlebotomist that I am today..I was able to raise/support my 3 children alone after my divorce…I’m forever grateful
Sincerely,
Karen Higgins ( MacKinnon at the time I was enrolled at MPI)

I have been to this school two times and each time was an amazing experience. I am thinking of going back soon to become an LPN. The school teaches all the right things I needed to know to get a job right after externship. The staff and teachers are great. Just like with every other school the student has to choose what to do with the information they receive, I used it to my advantage. Thank you for giving me a great future.

Took and passed the RPT exam on the first try. MPI offered the Phlebotomist to Medical Assistant scholarship so I came back to get my MA certificate. Took and passed the CMA exam. Great school with incredible instructors. MPI give students exactly what they need to succeed in the healthcare field. Small class sizes and as much one on one help as you need. The school really does want you to learn and succeed. Best choice you could make for yourself.

MY mpi having been a student here for these period i have come to understand that there are few schools around that can offer the opportunity that mpi is offering.
the tuition is cheaper that some schools that i have researched, the teaching staffs are well grounded and kwoledgeable, the campus is well and centrally located, easilly acessible.
Ihave recommended two people and will recommend more.
GREAT MPI.

I have to say that I utterly disagree with the previous review of MPI.

The school is located in Malden and I live in Plymouth which is by not at all close. My commute every morning was about two and a half hours. It was by no means easy to drive through the hustle and bustle of the morning city commute. But every morning while driving to school I was SO eager to get there.

Even during my admissions process, I absolutely fell in love with the school, the professors, and the staff. They are without a shadow of a doubt a close knit family who eagerly accepted myself and all of the other students into their lives, going above and beyond their call of duty (especially Angela!! who I have to say is not homely in the least bit).

My classes had about 10-20 students in it depending on which class it was. So it was very easy to get individualized attention. The students were all different ages, heritages, coming from all different occupations, and even different countries. I think that MPI gives people that are “stuck” in their careers or their lives, the opportunity to change. My program only lasted about 10 weeks but some of the programs take up to a year. So it didn’t take much time to complete. I am a mother of a 2 year old and am also 23 weeks pregnant and found the classes very doable (other then having to leave class for a couple of minutes everyday because of morning sickness :p)

My favorite part about the school is the extensive clinical setting that the school offers. I feel so prepared for my future career as a phlebotomist/ EKG technician. Halfway through the program we started doing blood draws and ended up doing multiple draws daily. I actually am starting my internship this Monday and I’m so excited.

Another great thing about MPI is that they also offer a job placement program where at any point of your working career you become unemployed, they will try and find you a job, which is HUGE in this economy!

I have to say though, if you are the type of student that doesn’t want to work hard and study, you will fail here. Also, they are a school. They have the right to deny entrance to people that they don’t feel are going to be a good fit there. But for the most part they accept a high percentage of their applicants.

I’m currently enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. The school has some good clinical sites and some bad ones as well. The teachers are very knowledgeable, kind, and enthusiastic. A lot of students have said that the school is missing an element to help better prepare the students for test taking. The class sizes are much larger than I had anticipated (40+), though they try to accommodate by dividing classes into multiple groups. Some classes are offered without labs which makes the credits non transferable, unfortunately. The study area is also the lounge. The cafeteria consists of a fridge, microwave, and vending machine. The school is located in a very safe neighborhood, and upon completion of the program a majority of the students whom I know of have passed the Nclex exam. The staff is usually responsive and open to feedback from students, I’m sure the program will improve in time.

Response from Administration:
November 5, 2014 – Greetings Frederic,

Thank you for the kind words that you have about the school and we hope to provide you with the best education possible. If there is anything that we can do in the meantime to enhance your experience please let the staff know. We are more than happy to listen and attempt to help our students succeed.

Thank you for your time and your dedication to the pursuit of this career. We at MPI wish you the best throughout the rest of your time here as well as after you graduate. Do not hesitate to call us or come back to us should you need absolutely anything. We are here to help.

I spent a lot of time wandering around this earth in a state of confusion as to where I wanted to go in life in regards to a career. I’ve worked in a vast range of jobs starting in my younger days working as a game room technician at Chuck E Cheese’s, then I was an Emergency Medical Technician, and my last job was a NSP Solutions Support Specialist (a branch of customer service) for Staples Corporate Office. While working for Staples I started to get a feeling that I found my calling and it was in fact going to be the life of customer service for me. What a relief to have some direction.

After working for Staples for just over 3 years, my entire department was laid off. So here I was, again, lost with no direction and no idea what I was going to do. I realized that I didn’t want to be trapped in the life of a corporate worker bee drone. I needed to do some major soul searching because collecting unemployment barely pays the bills and it definitely doesn’t last forever. So one day I decided to see what was out there for jobs and/or further educational opportunities. And that’s when my google search for phlebotomy programs in the area delivered a link to Medical Professional Institute in Malden, MA.

I have to say that even though I submitted an online request for additional information in November and didn’t hear back from anyone in the office until February or March, I haven’t had any issues with the school. I feel like the day I received that phone call my life instantly changed. I had a new feeling of purpose. The staff has been incredibly helpful and friendly. The school is located very close to where I live. And the instructors are very experienced and educated in the subjects they are teaching. All and all, I am very happy that I decided to come to this school to become a medical assistant and would recommend it to anyone.

Medical Professional Instituite.

I stumbled upon this school one day while surfing the net for nursing programs in the Boston area. I have had an overall good experience at this school.

From the receptionist to the teachers they are very helpful. No matter what the question, situation or problem is the staff at MPI promptly answers or attend to your needs.

The courses at MPI range from CNA to LPN. The tuition is verrrrrrrrrry expensive but in the long run it will be all worth it. The Teachers here are well trained and very professional. DR. Rash for example explains his lessons thoroughly, you never leave his class feeling like you sat for 5 hours and learned nothing, he breaks down every detail so that you understand what was just taught to you.

The class sizes are small which allows the teacher to give students individualized attention. I feel after graduating from MPI, I will have gain the necessary tools for my future.

Tried my best with the Lpn program. School is full of liers. And meanies. They don’t know how to teach. They make it sound good when U sign up but damn they have serious atitudes. Classes were bigger than I expected and plain sucked. They have no sympathy for you, any mistake you make will leD them earning more money. Didn’t receive my schedule until the 1 st day. It was horrible, long hours at school sometimes 7 am to 930 pm. Don’t ever go there, they are sneaks.

Response from Administration
Greetings Elizabeth,
We do apologize for your experience here at MPI. MPI does offer tutoring, assistance, and accommodations to any and all students that come to the school. We have tutors available ready to help and our Director of Student Services is always available to work with students on their individual needs.

As to hours, we do tell anyone applying to the school that it is a long schedule with long days. We have trained our Admissions Representatives to prepare anyone applying ahead of time to ensure that they are prepared for the schedule they are set to endure. Admissions Representatives are briefed with a general idea of a schedule and tell prospective students that labs, clinicals, and classes could begin early in the morning and run late at night.

As far as the schedule being released the first day of class our schedules are generally released during our mandatory orientation sessions. The schedule is not set fully until a few days before the orientation date. Class numbers fluctuate for a small institute such as ours. We want to ensure that classes are equally dispersed so that each student is given their absolute best opportunity and a more personalized experience. We do not wish to cluster students and make them feel unheard.

Should you have any further questions or wish to speak to us further please do not hesitate to contact us.

The admission process to their LPN program is extremely disorganized. Their staff gives conflicting information.

After taking your Teas test they give little time to get three reference letters, CPR and First Aid, School transcripts, orientation, and then an interview. if accepted you then need medical information filled out by primary care provider and they only give about a couple of days to get that back in. I called and asked specifically if i needed the paper signed by my primary care physician since it would more than a week to get an appointment or can the nurse fax in the information. I got a yes no problem. I Fax it over and headed home about half way home I get a phone call back saying actually we do need to have that done by your doctor. Frustrated I called the admissions officer and her response its not necessary just get the information in.
On the packet it states you need everything before you can hand in your application. therefore students without CPR and First Aid did not turn in their application. However in CPR class the director says you can absolutely turn in your application without it. you just need it before clinical. students who waited for their certificate might not get admitted even if qualified because their is limited number of seats for the program. The director was suppose to sign me up for CPR and first aid however my name never made it to the list and it was an on-going drama to finally put my name on the list. We were suppose to receive our cards after two weeks. I called in for my card it turns out you don’t get the cards until classes start. I cancelled my new job CPR class since I was gonna get it with them. but now its been more than three weeks my job is asking for the card and still no card to show them.
Regarding transfer credits student called in to find out if some of her courses were transferable. She was told those classes were taken too long and are nontransferable. On orientation day director told her that that information was incorrect and that those classes were transferable. I cannot speak regarding the course work since i haven’t started yet but their admissions process left me with the impression that they are disorganized and unprofessional.

Academic Experience: The curriculum at MPI is much like any other eleven month LPN program I would guess, except for certain professors know nothing about what they are teaching (i,e: haven’t worked in the nursing field in 10+ years), and gave us a Human Growth and Development course instead of Nutrition. (Mind you, we had to write a 3 page paper on nutrition to basically teach ourselves). Another pain the neck is they don’t accept transfers from other schools lower than a grade of B. Isn’t a C grade usually the standard? I already took HG&D at a real college and got a C+, yet I they denied my request to drop the class. It shouldn’t matter to them, they aren’t losing any money over it.

I wrote a review here 6 months after my graduation from the medical assisting program. While attending MPI, the classes were very disorganized. Here i am almost 3 years later without a medical assisting job. I have had other employment in other fields, but none in the medical assisting field whatsoever, and it doesn’t seem like any of my classmates do either. I am now stuck with a student loan, and wasted time. I have gone through career centers, had my resume looked at by professionals, but according to places i have been on for interviews, MPI was basically a waste. Its all about the money for them. Its funny how they have someone there who can supposedly help you with finding a job, yet when i call nobody calls me back. I have seen them post about their job placement center on craigslist and on the board of the career center I attended, but they cant bother helping their students first? Don’t go here unless you want to throw thousands of dollars and waste your time.

Response from Administration
October 13, 2014 – I’m sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately no school can guarantee jobs upon graduation. We do offer job placement assistance but it still requires work by the student/graduate in order to land a top position in any field of study. Graduates who are not willing to put in that work will not find the right job that will make them happy in their career.

MPI has an excellent track record in regards to student placement and student success in the career path they have chosen to study while in school at MPI. This holds true for all of our programs. We have extremely good relationships with many healthcare facilities in the Greater Boston area and many of them come to use for our students before jobs are posted publicly giving our students and graduates the first chance to present themselves professionally to the hiring manager and land the position.

Medical Assistants fill a variety of roles in the healthcare community so not every medical assisting job is the same. Have you been in touch with our Career Services Coordinator since you have graduated? Have you marketed yourself in a professional manner, conducted job searches and updated your resume as instructed during your Career Success class?

We are always here to help our students in any way that we can and to this day if you need our assistance please feel free to contact us or our Career Services department. Though it has been some time since you graduated from the school we offer refresher sessions to help prepare you to get back into the field.

Don’t waste your money or your time. All you will get is a bunch of headaches and an empty wallet. I went to MPI in 2011 after spending over $25,000 to complete the program which doesn’t include books, uniforms, graduation, transcripts after you graduate ect. The are still trying to get money out of me, $3 for a transcript really MPI what a joke! Not to mention the HORRIBLE experience I had as a student there. They talk about small class sizes and great teachers. One semester I had three teachers for one class. Clinical rotations were held at the most run down dumps I have ever seen in my life. You learn nothing in class you have to do ALL the work on your own at home. Then when you do get your license and want to move on none of your credits transfer you have to take all of those classes again. So do the research people take it from somebody who made the mistake of going to MPI and DON’T GO HERE!!!!

Response from Administration:
November 5, 2014: Jessica,

I’m sorry that you feel your experience at MPI was not up to par. We have graduated 100’s of successful students in the time since you graduated. It is also my understanding that while you were here you had some issues with your clinical. You also graduated in 2011 and I’m a little puzzled as to why you are making this post now, 3 years later? Is it because you are finding out that some classes you took 3 years ago are no longer transferable? Has the school to which you are applying told you why those classes are not transferable? There could be many factors and we are definitely here to help you or any other student in need.

If you have any problems with our procedures or you need help with continuing your education I wish that you would contact us directly so that our staff can help you as best we can. We are well equipped to help our students and alumni in their endeavors.

We are fully accredited by ABHES so our credits are transferable; however, and this is true for all schools, there may be some individual classes that do not carry over to other schools. There may also be changes by the accreditation bureaus at any time that can render older classes irrelevant but I can assure you that MPI credits are transferable.

MPI Administration

Total WASTE OF TIME and MONEY, this place is totally focused on making money out of people, they make the students they trapped to pay so much money for nothing.(90% more than what you would have paid in a community college).they claim they help you get jobs, lies. A bunch of unprofessional clerical staff work and manage the school. the look of the school building which we all overlooked entails more. i noticed but ignored that from the first day i came to the school: I have to write my application twice because the unprofessional staff misplaced the first application i filled. DO NOT GO THERE!

Tuition & Financial Aid: Never Ending! Financial Aid appointments at Medical Professional Institute were never ending, confusing and annoying. I’m in an eleven-month program and probably had at least 5 financial aid appointments! Every time paperwork was presented to me it was just “Ok, sign here, sign there, put 0 there, 1 there and initial there” and when you asked “What is this?” the response would be “Oh, don’t worry about it just sign it”. I don’t think they have an actual financial aid advisor! I think they used one of the office girls to do it. It was horrible!!!

Program: Medical Assistant
Term: Summer 2012

I found the Job search tough after graduating from the MA program. Without relevant experience I found it tough to get into the interview. Deb worked with me and really helped me out with this. I spoke with her every couple days, if not daily some weeks. Every interview up to and including the position I was hired for Deb set up for me using her contacts and hard work.

I eventually after 3 months of searching for work was hired on at Mystic Valley Medical in Medford. I have the opportunity to practice many of the skill that I learned while at MPI including: measuring vitals, administering immunizations and other injections, administering EKG’s, drawing and centrifuging blood samples, various laboratory tests, as well as various administrative duties.

Patricia Gray
Program: Phlebotomy Technician
Term: Winter 2012

Thank you for helping me get the education I wanted so I could start over in a new career.

As of today I am now a Registered Phlebotomy Technician.

I was able to get a job at Newton Wellesley Hospital where I had completed my externship.

They were impressed with the techniques and knowledge I had gained from MPI.

Many patients think I have been a phlebotomist for years!

I am very grateful to the staff and instructors for all your help in securing a new future myself.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the team at MPI, from my classroom experience, to the externship in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, to my job placement in an International Parmaceutical company.

Provi Colon and Deb Berkovitz provided support and dedication in their positions.

Thank you for everything!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Honeycutt
